Jozef Ivaska will perform a concert of sacred and secular music on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at the Church of The Sacred Heart, 4415 County Drive in New Bohemia, Prince George County, Virginia.  Ivaska, known as the “Man of a Thousand Songs” for the variety of his repertoire, has entertained around the world and has recorded several albums.  He was born in Slovakia but was forced out of the country of his birth during the Communist era.  The artist left for Austria and performed with the Vienna Opera.  For the past two decades, he has sung with the Metropolitan Opera in Baden, Austria, as a lyrical tenor.  Jozef Ivaska speaks and sings in multiple languages and will perform folk music from his country as well as secular and religious songs, which will be presented in different languages and styles.

This will be his second performance in the Southside Virginia area, having last performed here two years ago to an enthusiastic audience in
Hopewell.  The event is co-sponsored by the CSA Fraternal Life Association (formerly the Czechoslovak Society of America) and the Southside Virginia Czech/Slovak Heritage Society and is free and open to the public.  A free-will offering will be collected.  Sacred Heart is located near the intersection of Route 460 and I-295 (east on exit #3 off I-295).  For additional information contact czechslovak@verizon.net
