Hrouda
and Lichtenberg families
The Hrouda
family purchased a farm in Dinwiddie County
in December 1894. They sold the farm and
moved to Kansas in 1905.
Wenceslas Lichtenberg
and Veronica Vodgasek Lichtenberg were the parents of Marie Hrouda. The Wenceslas
and Veronica Lichtenberg sailed from
Bremen, arriving in America
on May 30, 1874 with their
children “Johann: (John), Barbara and “Maria” (Mary). The
went first to Nebraska
before coming to Virginia. Veronica died in 1899, Wenceslas in
1900. Both are buried in St.
Joseph’s Cemetery (Section 40). John is the brother of Marie. He remained in Dinwiddie
County -- dying in Richmond
in the 1930’s He never married.

1900 United States Federal Census, Dinwiddie
County: Frank Hrouda (head, age 40) and “Marie” Hrouda
(wife, age 40); children: Frank, “Stozer” (Stazy), Marie Lilly
Josephine Wenceslas, Rose, Joseph. Also living
in the household: Wenceslas Lichtenberg
(age 79) and John Lichtenberg (age
52).
Dinwiddie Courthouse Records (Book 27, page 232): On November 28, 1905 a deed conveyed by Frank
Hrouda and
Mary Hrouda
(sellers) to John W. Pegram (buyer) for 196 ˝ acres, which
was conveyed to Frank Hrouda
by J.R. & M. E. Peebles December
21, 1894.
