First off, make sure there’s an empty bed down.

From there, talk to a new Villager that comes to your Village. After talking with them, choose the “Live in My Village” option. They’ll then ask if they have a spot for them to sleep. Say yes, and then this will assign the Villager to any of the empty beds.

No need to worry, though; you can then go to your beds and switch them if you want.

Just be warned that you can’t do this endlessly; your Village rating depends on how many Villagers you can have. That means you can only do this a few times.
