Mutants: Genetic Gladiators Preview
If there’s one thing people love doing, it’s collecting. Nintendo’s Pokemon capitalized on this feverish habit of ours with great success, but their monster-battling sim only goes so far. For those looking for something a bit more social, Kobojo’s got you covered with Mutants: Genetic Gladiators.
Rather than compete with Nintendo’s ten-ton Pikachu head-on, Mutants: Genetic Gladiators takes the formula in a different direction. Adopting a free-to-play style, the entirety of the game is played on mobile and social platforms. And it’s paid off for them: since its release last year, the company has amassed more than six million battlers to date. What does this mean for players? More fights worldwide.
Tying this all together is a turn-based battle system. Elemental strengths and weaknesses are the norm, spread across more than 100 different mutants. Later Pokemon generation features like 3v3 fights make an appearance, as do four different tournament divisions. Perhaps the biggest addition is accessibility — those not looking to learn all about EV or IV stats can just jump in and play.
