The Guided Fate Paradox Preview: God is Complex

The Guided Fate Paradox Preview God is Complex
The rogue-like genre of games gets little love these days.

Maybe its due to their random nature, their stiff penalties for death, or their lack of hand-holding. Some may scoff at their stiff difficulty level, but others are eager to take on the challenge with open arms. NIS America has big plans for the genre with The Guided Fate Paradox, a rogue-like that could not be more old-school if it tried.

That’s not to say rogue-likes are a lost art. They still appear in the gaming sphere every now and again, with titles like FTL: Faster Than Light and The Binding of Isaac channeling their spirit. While those two simply dabbled in the genre, The Guided Fate Paradox fully embraces its roots. Strategic gameplay, an emphasis on loot, and randomized floors are all present and accounted for, as is the challenging gameplay.

However, a few RPG elements have also been added to make the random dungeon crawling a little less random. Base stats can be improved, and items can be claimed even after death. Perhaps its biggest addition is a strong story that adds some character to the characters.

Telling the tale of Renya Kagurazaka, his luck in a lottery to become God. What follows is a journey to spark a revolution in the world of Celestia. Expect plenty of story and the wacky anime-style humor that NIS America is known for. Topping things off are high quality sprites, designed from the ground-up by the illustrator behind The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

All would-be adventurers can check out The Guided Fate Paradox when it launches on November 5, 2013 for the PlayStation 3.
