Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Treasure Map Guide
As you explore the world of Skyrim you will discover a number of Treasure Maps. These maps show small pictures of certain locations where rare treasure can be found. This Treasure Map Guide will list the location of all the Treasure Maps as well as the location of the hidden treasure. Feel free to leave comments or information about other maps, the more people we have contributing, the quicker we can all find the treasure.
One of the Guest Heroes has been nice enough to add a video compilation for all the Treasure Maps. A video has been added to each map. A big thanks to TheWorldAsunder for providing links to these videos.
Treasure Map I – Thanks to Guest Hero Megamots
Map Location:
Treasure Location: Head directly south of those first few stone you pass by at the beginning of the game. You can take that first road south from those stones until you come to a sign on your right. Take a right at that sign and follow that road until you see the bandit camp on your left after a short walk.
Map II – Special Thanks to Guest Hero TheWorldAsunder
Map Location: Journeyman’s Nook, southeast of Winterhold, in the knapsack between the table and fire. Have to fight a bandit here.
Treasure Location: Near the waterfall on the east side of the Valtheim Towers
Treasure Map III – Thanks to Guest Hero fmfdoc & TheWorldAsunder
Map Location: Riverside shack near Windhelm its on river morgrim..watch out for the cave bear inside the shack. Its by a fort that starts with a M Mov something or other
Treasure Location: Along the coast next to Solitude’s lighthouse.
Treasure Map IV
Map Location: Redorans Retreat, run West from Whiterun to Fort Greymoor, then head North.
Treasure Location: Pelagia Farm outsite Whiterun. Head South-West high up the mountains, on the large map it is just North East of the small blue part as the snow begins.
Map V – Special Thanks to Guest Hero TheWorldAsunder
Map Location: Angi’s Camp (In the mountains south of Falkreath. You’ll need to head east out of Falkreath and just past Pinereach you’ll see a path that goes up the mountains on the south side. Take that and head back west. When you see a branching path with bear traps, you’ve found the right way.) Inside the Cabin, in the end table next to the bed.
Treasure Location: At the waterfalls of Lost Valley Redoubt – just east of Gloomreach.
Treasure Map VI – Special Thanks to Guest Hero TheWorldAsunder
Map Location: On a Dead female Woodelf in the Summit northwest of Volunruud (Volunruud is the ruin that is pretty much in the middle point of the triangle of Dawnstar, Morthal and Whiterun.) You will find a male Wood Elf nearby with a blood trail leading to her.
Treasure Location: Korvanjund. At the top of the arch of the barrow, next to the tree.
Map VII – Special Thanks to Guest Hero TheWorldAsunder
Map Location: The Traitor’s post, inside the chest in the hideout.
Treasure Location: Inside the outer walls of Gallow’s Rock. Just under the rock with the noose hanging from it.
Map VIII – Special Thanks to Guest Hero TheWorldAsunder
Map Location: On a dead hunter nearby some horkers. This is on the coast north/northeast of Winterhold
Treasure Location: Dragonbridge. First – go to a satchel next to a tree across from the bridge. This holds the key to the chest, which is in the river northeast of the bridge. (The map leads to both these spots. However, you can pick the lock on the chest as well.)
Treasure Map IX – Thanks to Guest Hero Jake Gav
Map Location: IX is on the dead body of Lucky L.(not exactly that lucky) A tree fell into his house and killed him so you don’t actually have to kill him yourself. His house is unmarked on the map. I don’t remember the exact location but it’s directly on the water somewhere between Ivarstead and Fort Amol.
Treasure Location: I haven’t found the treasure yet, but I know it’s near Riften in the very bottom-right of the map. Hope I could help
Treasure Map X – Thanks to Guest Hero TheWorldAsunder
Map Location: Stony Creek Cave just south of Windhelm. The Bandit Thug is carrying it.
Treasure Location: An underwater chest just next to the stone of the lady on the lake north of Falkreach

I found the Treasure Map 2 at Jouernymans nook, east of whistling mine and south of winterhold college. if some one asks you to hold an item for them you are nearby.
Actually the chest in dawnstar resets every TWO days you just gotta find the khajit caravan merchants and all you have to do is look at their inventory then the chest is reset. (In response to whoever said it resets every month)
Also i found Treasure map I at the bandit camp near riverwood
The location of Treasure Map IX is on the dead body of Lucky L.(not exactly that lucky) A tree fell into his house and killed him so you don’t actually have to kill him yourself. His house is unmarked on the map. I don’t remember the exact location but it’s directly on the water somewhere between Ivarstead and Fort Amol. Added and credited, thank you 😀
treasure map 3 I found at the riverside shack near windhelm its on river morgrim..watch out for the cave bear inside the shack. Its by a fort that starts with a M mov someething or other
Added, thanks for your contribution
*Morvunskar
It’s also quite close to Kynesgrove.
I got either Treasure map III or X in the riverside shack on the river that leads south from Windhelm. It’s on the eastern side, but be ready to fight a bear.
Map III leads you to a treasure along the coast next to Solitude’s lighthouse.
Map X leads you to an underwater chest just next to the stone of the lady on the lake north of falkreath.
Added all the info, thanks 🙂
Where is the bandit camp for TM 1 exactly??
Nevermind I found it…just have to head directly south of those first few stone you pass by at the beginning of the game. You can take that first road south from those stones until you come to a sign on your right. Take a right at that sign and follow that road until you see the bandit camp on your left after a short walk.
Added to post, much appreciated.
Treasure II is between Valtheim towers (east of whiterun follow the river and you find it) and the waterfall, on the same side as the road.
Hey – just found out where I found map X on a reroll – It’s in Stony Creek Cave just south of Windhelm. The Bandit Thug is carrying it. There’s also a quest to kill the bandits here in Windhelm.
Thank you for the extra information, updated 😀
I have found them all! (I think there’s only 10.) 😀 I am going to be making youtube videos for each one now, but here are the ones you’re missing now:

If you’d like to message me the links of your videos after you’ve made them, we would be happy to feature them in the article to help get you some viewers. Thanks for the feedback!
That’d be awesome.
First one of the series is here:

Rest that I have uploaded so far are linked off that by annotations 😛
Added, if you wouldn’t mind add a link to this article in the description, as a text based alternative, that would be great 😀
Bug? I found Map IV and when I went there, there was no chest! Why would this be? I verified I was at the right spot. Thoughts?
You are not in the right place. The out crop of rock is further out then you think. I was lost for a bit on this on too.
Location of treasure ix by broken helm hollow. Fast travel there go up to the door turn right and it’s under the waterfall. You have to fall down to it
IX is southeast of Riften just follow the road out and you’ll eventually come to a bridge next to a waterfall. Go past the bridge and walk up the rightside path. You come to Broken Helm Hollow as soon as you get to the door take a right hug the wall underneath the waterfall and the chest should be sitting on the right side. Be sure not to get into the waterfall or else you’ll be pushed off by the water.
went to map x treasure chest not there why?
I think there are some bugs. You need the map to see the chest, I know that, but This time when I got to the chest location, I couldn’t see the chest. might be and issue with it detecting it in my inventory
will try putting the map somewhere and picking it up again.
Same exact thing for me! Treasure X is NOT there! I spent 10 min looking on my own then frustrated I resorted to the internet and followed the video exactly and what do you know? The chest is NOT even there!!!
I found map 4 clearing redorans retreat turned in the quest from whiterun then went to my house and when i entered it said map IV removed. i went to the spot where the chest should be from the video and there is no chest. was i pickpocketed and some thieve took the chest? can anyone confirm
Same for me. Returned home and lost the map?
I cant find the treasures, ive been at the same spot as you but still no chests, the first, and the second donno why? someone who could explain that to me?
Treasure Maps have been broken by the 1.2 patch. They no longer spawn chests when picking up the map. That’s why people are reporting having the map but not seeing the treasure chest. Hopefully this gets fixed next week.
ALL and I mean ALL Treasure Maps for the PC version are absolutely 100% bugged no doubt about it. I’ve followed each and every one of the movies to gather and “find” the treasures. I get to the chest location, and, Nothing. Not a damn thing. This is so bogus and needs to be fixed pronto! Total let down…
Im playing 360 and i went to where i thought number 1 was, (and it was in the general area according to the video) however no chest…at all…is this a patch issue? because i ALWAYS look at the maps when i get them so that shouldnt be an issue…so what IS the issue then? any help would be awesome, thnx! UR
The current patch stopped the Treasure Chests from spawning after you discover the map, nothing you can do I’m afraid. I suggest finding all the maps, find the nearest quick travel spot to the treasure for each and making sure it’s discovered, then you can simply fast travel and get it when they fix it.
anyone found valehk sains treasure? the dremora from the midden?
If you fast travel to Pilgrim’s Trench, then look directly east you will see a large statue of Talos on a small island. The treasure chests’ (there are two of them) are directly below his feet next to a rock by the water and will magically appear when you get close to them.
On a side note: When traveling anywhere in Skyrim be sure to take a horse (I have Shadowmere) because they can climb and jump straight up mountains so you don’t have to walk around and find the trail up. Also I have completed the quest “NO STONE UNTURNED” (stones of Barenzia, unusual gems) along with the crown they were in and returned them to the Thieves Guild. The perk from this is “ASTOUNDING” as every chest, including Dragons killed, have flawless gems in them and much more gold. I would recommend everyone doing this quest it rocks.
Wind Guide you ;?)
i went to all the locations and nothing is there can anyone help?
The maps are still bugged.
you need the treasure maps for the chests to spaw
What level are you when doing this? I’m 33 atm but I’m getting nothing great out of them a ebony ignots and jewellery but not really good like you. Will this depend on the level of your character?
I am wondering the same thing. I am only lvl 15 and I am not getting much out of these chests. I am going to hang on to the maps for later and see if I get something better when I am a higher level.
As with all chest rewards, they scale as you level. The treasure ones dont follow the same scale ratio as others but they do improve slightly the longer you wait.
i cant find lucky L for number nine…i looked everywhere
After crossing the border when following the path from Whiterun, you’ll see Fort Amol in the distance to the east and an Abandoned Prison to the north. From where the road splits in two, travel directly to the north to find Lucky Lorenz’s Shack, which has been destroyed by a fallen tree. The treasure map is on the corpse of Lucky Lorenz, squished beneath the tree itself.
To find Treasure IX. Follow the road from Fort Amol, towards Darkwater Crossing (The large falls) before you reach Darkwater there is a path that leads right (south) off the road. Follow it and keep to the left path when it forks. You will come to Darkwater Pass, clear it and it will bring you to the middle falls. [If you want added loot there is a skeleton underwater, straight ahead from the exit]. From the exit follow the path up the mountain to the west(right side of exit), keep left at the fork. When you reach the river there is a clearing to the left and for me a Saber cat (may be different for others), follow the clearing to the falls (keep left). [There are two lootable barrels and a skill book just before the chest]. Once at the cliff look down you will see the chest.
darkwater crossing well ralof (stormcloack) you see in the begining and during civil war (i want to do that) once escaped from helgen and then in riverwood he say the imperials laid an ambusch on us by darkwater crossing
I noticed you do not have the Fort Nuegrad treasure map either
anyone find velehk sains treasure yet?
its near the statue of talos
Has the fix for the spawn bug come out? I still can’t find my chests 🙁
I can’t seem to find the hidden chest in Dawnstar on this page, You go to the iron-breaker mine and go left of the entrance and look down and you’ll see a “search chest” appear, The chest contents varies by player but usually contains very valuble and/or useful stuff.
Edited by CC: Although the intention may be harmless, the word involved in your surname is still considered to be a bit harsh for younger eyes 😉
Luckys Treasure chest (treasure map “IX”) is located at “Broken Helm Hollow” in Riften directly east of Forelhost. Instead of going into the hollows door go right and drop straight down into the water fall, on top of the chest on the ledge below. The chest is there in the water on the outcropping. If you miss the ledge and drop clear to the bottom you will have to climb back up the trail again.
There is a hidden chest in Dawnstar, got there and on the right walkway path go to the area where there are two trees. next there are 3 rocks next to it and stand betwwen the first one and two there will be a invisable chest and has 50 items and rests once a mounth. scan the area between the rock (3) and the mountain base it made take somne time because its small. enjoy!
Thanks so much for the videos! Hope Map I video is up soon cause that’s the only one I haven’t found yet! Once again thanks and great job on explaining it was really easy to follow instructions 🙂
the voice in those videos are hot…. and thanks for the treasure locations 😀
I was playing on the 360 version at a friends house, killed some bandits near Riverwood, Found a map. got the treasure across the river from riverwood in a large fallen tree. When I got home I tried to find the place on my pc version but could not find the treasure at the same place. I was just wondering if you need the map in your inventory to find the treasure, and if the locations are the same in each version.
I am looking for eminent weiding but sold off the only pair enchanted i was hoping these treasures would be good but in every one i find crap i guess i am leveled to high 4 the game 2 give me good things. I do have a little fun treasure hunting though and these vids are the best to do so in my opinion.
The 9th treasure map is basically across the waterfall from the abandoned prison, just northeast of fort amol
For map VIII, I found the hunter that’s underneath the dead horker (I call the area “Haul of the Horkers”), but then I left because I didn’t know that he had a treasure map, and after I found out about the treasure map, I went back to Haul of the Horkers but the hunter’s corpse was gone. As I did the first time I found this area, I looked underneath the dead Horker but the hunter’s corpse wasn’t there. Then I looked everywhere else in the camp, but I couldn’t find the hunter’s corpse anywhere. Reply to this comment if this happened to any of you.
maybe its dragged by a wolf and is now a skeleton somewhere (idk just theory)
im tryna find the redgaurd women .. any help?
Sorry. Been a long time since I played. Hopefully one of the other visitors can help 😀
She’s in the inn at Whiterun
