Borderlands 2
Borderlands 2 is a sequel to Borderlands from 2009. The highly successful first installment was praised both by players and by critics, so it was never a surprise that there would be another game coming up. Gearbox Software’s new game is still a first person perspective Diablo-like shooter with elements of RPG. It also has a big focus on cooperation. In the second game we go back to the planet of Pandora to explore all the previously unvisited regions that still hide many secrets. The story begins not long after the events of the first Borderlands.
This time, the main antagonist is Handsome Jack, who attributes the previous heroes’ merits to himself, buys Hyperion, the biggest weapon producer of the game, and declares himself to be a new dictator of Pandora. The player has to get rid of Jack’s tyranny, of course shown in a comical way. All the previous characters have been implemented into the game, but we do not control them anymore. Mordecai, Lilith and Brick are somewhere on the sidelines, serving as a reminder of the previous events.
In Borderlands 2, we get four brand new characters to play with: Salvador, Maya, Zero and Axton. As in the original Borderlands, they are very varied both in terms of nature and of actual gameplay. Now, together with new protagonists we get new classes. Gunzerker serves as a typical tank, also being able to use two types of weapons at the same time. Commando uses an automatic cannon which he can further develop by investing experience into an appropriate set of skills. The Assassin, as the name suggests, is a stealthy fellow that can fight successfully only if he manages to surprise his enemy. He sets various traps and needs to stay hidden. Borderlands 2 features Siren, too, a class that was present in the first installment. Here, however, it has received many other abilities, so it is a novelty of a kind too.
