In order to open the new Rift introduced with today’s update, you need to find the Giraffe Toy Relic, Laptop Relic, and Imaginary Friend Drawing Relic, alongside the Science Journal.

Defeating Enemies In The Aether Storm

The Science Journal is probably the easiest of all the Relics to obtain. In order to collect it you simply need to defeat numerous zomibes inside the Aether Storm.

The Aether Storm is marked on the map by a purple biohazard icon, as shown above. It spawns in a different place for each match, but if you check your map, you’ll find it before long.

Then, all you have to do is head to the Aether Storm and kill enemies within the area. You don’t need to kill the Stormcaller.

It takes about 25 enemies before a Reward Rift appears containing the Science Journal.

You Need Death Perception Perk Activated

Before you are able to obtain this Relic, you need to make sure you have the Death Perception perk active. You can obtain this in one of two ways. You can buy it in-game at a Depth Perception machine or you can craft it.

If you have the recipe, craft the Death Perception Can from the Perk-A-Colas

Head To The Mansion In I-7

You need to head to a mansion located in I-7. Use the coordinates on the top and side of the map to located I-7. It’s in the South East corner of the map. It’s over the lake from Shahin Manor.

Once you reach the mansion, head upstairs, and you will find a large bedroom with a double bed sitting in the center of the room.

Look For The Relic Under The Bed

As you approach the bed, lay down and look underneath it. You will see a small jewelled box. As you approach, you should hear a voice-over from the Entity, giving you a bit of backstory on the Relic.

After a short bit of dialogue, a Reward Rift will appear on the bed. You can then access the Reward Rift to obtain the Relic,

Make sure you have the Laptop Relic and the Giraffe Toy Relic, and finally the Science Journal Relic.

The Dev Error 5433 was introduced with today’s update and has left many players unable to play. Thankfully, however, it’s an incredibly easy fix and can be done in about 15 seconds. No tech experience necessary.

Head into the settings menu in Call of Duty Modern Warfare Zombies and select the “Graphics” option. From the next set of options, select “On-Demand Texture Streaming” and you will see a “Show More” option listed below.

Press the “Show More” option. From the new set of options select “Allocated Texture Cache Size” and reduce that to “Small”.

That will fix Dev Error 5433, happy slaying!

The new Dark Aether Rift Portal can be found in the Tier 3 zone next to the starting location for the new Act IV mission, Union. After completing Union you will receive the first Relic, the Giraffe Toy. After that, you need to find the three other Relics to open the new rift. The Laptop Relic is one of those.

Where To Find The Laptop Relic

The Laptop Relic can be found in a number of locations, but it’s moreso a unique type of enemy you are searching for. You need to find a Sergeant Mercenary. These enemies can be found in one of two places.

They are sometimes in location at Mercenary Camps, marked by a tent icon on the map. These spawn and respawn throughout the match and aren’t always in fixed positions.

A more reliable method of finding them is in Mercenary Strongholds. These require Stronghold Keys that you can obtain from the Mercenary Camps. Every Mercenary Stronghold has a single Sergeant, making it slightly longer than the camps, but it’s a guarantee

You then need to have a Dog with you and have the dog kill the Sergeant without the Sergeant taking any other damage. If done correctly, a Rift Portal will appear immediately after the Sergeant is killed and the Laptop Relic is inside.

You will also need to find the Imaginary Friend Drawing and the Science Journal Relic

To obtain the new Giraffe Toy Relic in Call of Duty MWZ, you first need to complete the new Act IV Story Mission, Union. It’s marked on the map, by a story icon in the Tier 3 zone on the West side.

Complete Break The Storm – Getting The Giraffe Toy

During the Union mission, there is a challenge to Break the Storm where you must complete a sequence puzzle challenge. The video above will tell you everything you need to know to complete the mission and obtain the Giraffe Toy.

What Do You Do With The Giraffe Toy?

If you explore the Tier 3 zone around the new rift location, you will find similar panels that you used during the Break the Storm mission. Additionally, there are several pedestals near the rift for Relics.

In previous updates, you had to use different relics to activate each Pedestal, which would add a new rift to explore. The Giraffe Toy is likely one of the three new Relics required to gain access to the new Rift.

This means, after you find the Giraffe Toy, you will need to locate two other Relics which you can then use on the Rift portal to open a new rift to explore.

You will also need to find Relics with images that look like a Laptop, Newspaper, and a Map. We’re still working on locating these.

Where To Use The Giraffe Key

Simply head to the rift where you started the story mission and one of the pedestals will be for the Giraffe Key.

We’ll update this guide with more information as we figure it out.

Where To Find All The New Relics

All of the new relics can be found in the new story mission called Countermeasures. It’s part of Act IV but you don’t need to have completed all previous Acts to do the mission. You can find the travel location to the mission in the Northern edge of the Tier 3 red zone. Simply head to the location and travel through the portal.

Finding The MMA Gloves

The MMA Gloves can be found on the large boat, immediately next to where you start at the beginning of the mission. There’s an Obelisk on the boats deck. Simply interact with it to start the challenge. Once it begins, you will need to kill zombies with melee to charge the Obelisk. There is an Instant Kill buff that spawns at the relic every 30-45 seconds. Pick that up, instantly kill the zombies with melee, and once the Obelisk has enough charge, it will release the MMA Gloves.

Finding The Pristine Mirror

This is probably the hardest of the new relics to find. It can be found at an Obelisk in I8, out in the misty area. When you activate the Obelisk it will begin one of the elements, Fire, Ice, Lightning or Brainrot. For us, it was always Fire first, then Ice, then Deadwire and finally Brain Rot.

The clues can be found on the outer circle itself and there are 4 ammo types that spawn on the Obelisk. Pick up the ammo type matching the outer circle. For example, if it’s burning, pick up Napalm ammo. When it turns frosty, use the Cryo ammo, when there are lightning bolts around the circle, use the Dead Shot, then finally the Brainrot ammo. When you kill a zombie, if you are using the correct ammo, you should see their “souls” (a bright light) go from their body to the Obelisk. Kill enough to charge the Obelisk.

Finding The Perforated Target

You can find this Obelisk in E3, at a crossroads. As before, approach to activate. For this one, you need to wait for enemy zombies to enter the circle area around the Obelisk and then kill them with headshots. Once enough zombies have been killed to charge the Obelisk, it will drop the Perforated Target.

Finding The Drum

The drum is probably the easiest of the new items to obtain and it’s already gold. Simply complete the new Countermeasures mission and the final Reward Rift at the end will give you the Drum.

Turning The New Relics Gold

Turning the items gold takes place on the main Call of Duty Modern Warfare Zombies map, you do not need to be in the mission to do this. It’s worth noting that right now, this is quite buggy. Some players are unable to interact with the locations, while others can.

Turning The MMA Gloves Gold

Head to the boxing ring in the Zaravan Suburbs. Once you are there, head into the center of the ring and use the interact button that appears. Once you have offered the Tattered MMA Gloves in the ring, switch to melee and punch the three nearby punching bags until they are on fire. An enemy will then spawn. Kill the zombie with fist melee attacks to get the gold gloves.

Turning The Pristine Mirror Gold

For the mirror, you need to head to the graveyard in the North East corner of the map. Once there, there’s a gravestone with a mirror marked on it. Offer the mirror at the gravestone and several zombies will spawn. In a nearby tower, the ammo types will spawn. Simply grab the ammo type that matches the zombies, kill them with it, and when the final enemy dies you will get the gold mirror.

Turning The Perforated Target Gold

For the Perforated Target, head to the Shahin Manor target range. Once there, approach one of the target range stations and you will be able to offer your item. Targets will then spawn around the area, marked by a purple glow. Shoot each target to turn it red and a zombie will spawn. Kill the zombie to get the final item.

Once you have all 4 gold items, you can head to the new rift location and open the rift.

The latest update introduces a brand new mission in Act IV of Zombies Mode called Countermeasures. This mission tasks you with investigating another anomaly and then escaping the rift. It’s a simple mission, the zombies inside are Tier 2, so if you come prepared, it’s not too difficult.

It’s a good idea to bring the Depth Perception perk with you, as there’s a section in the rift that requires you to find Spores, much like the Infected Strongholds and Ether Nests. There’s 20, in a large shopping mall area, so Depth Perception helps you track them down far quicker.

At the end of the mission you will need to defeat a named Mangler. Once this enemy has been defeated, check the Reward Rift. One of the items in the Reward Rift is the Drum. This is one of the three items needed to access the new Rift.

There are two main tasks with all the items needed to open the Dark Aether Rift. You need to first find the item and then you need to transform the item into a legendary item so it works on the Rift. We’ll explain how to complete both of these steps for the Pills item in MWZ below.

Where To Find The Pills In MWZ

You need to find an Infestation, not a stronghold, just a normal Aether Nest is fine. Once you are inside you need to use Brain Rot ammo and shoot one of the cysts. This will turn the cyst a different color, it should turn green. You can then approach the cyst and loot it for the item you need, you get a purple pill bottle.

Once you have the purple pill bottle, find an Aether Tear and head into the sky. Once in the sky you will find another portal, follow that portal through. You will then arrive at a random location and find a nearby unique bounty mission. Kill the target to loot the gold version of the pill bottle.

To get the purple version of the Dog Collar you need to find a Kennel and place a Molotov and piece of meat inside. This will spawn a Hellhound. Kill the Hellhound and it will drop a purple collar. To turn the collar gold, find an Aether Tear and travel into the sky. You will see another portal in the sky, head into that portal. From there, you will find a nearby unique bounty mission. Take the bounty and kill the target. Loot the Aether Reward Portal to find the golden version of the Dog Collar.

Where To Find The Camera Item For Dark Aether Rift In COD Modern Warfare 3 Zombies

To find the camera you need to find the Harvester Orb on the map, these are the floating balls of Aether that drop money when shot. Shoot and kill it with Dead Wire ammo, it changes color after the first hit, and once killed it will drop a Surveillance Camera.

Once you have the camera head through an Aether Tear that takes you into the sky. You will see another portal ahead of you, take that portal. This will take you to a new location which unlocks a special bounty mission nearby. Complete the bounty mission and the Aether Reward Portal will drop a gold version of the camera. You can then place it on the pedestal with the other items.
