[line style=’solid’ top=’10’ bottom=’10’ width=’100%’ height=’1′ color=’blue’]Making its debut last year, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge managed to make an impact with its side-scrolling action. The tight controls, enemy juggling (with combos that go well into the double digits!), super attacks, and fanservice callbacks to the Konami arcade originals that started it all made it one of our five games of the year in 2022 – catch up on the highlights with our review here, which we gave a score of 85/100.
As part of this new Dimension Shellshock DLC, two new characters enter the fight that boast impressive stats. A high-ranking member of the Foot Clan, Karai is a speed-based ninja that specializes in juggles and high flying attacks. She possesses a dodge with a healthy amount of i-frames, and her special ability sends multiple shadow images of herself, leading to massive damage. She also possesses a number of lightning-based attacks, which we thoroughly enjoyed using to clear house in the stickiest of situations.
Meanwhile, Usagi is a rōnin rabbit that knows his way around a sword. His moves make for some fantastic crowd control, and his special attack prevents any Foot Clan members from getting too close. He’s also a speed demon, and is an absolute blast to play for both novices and experts alike.
For those who have been there and done that with the main campaign of the title, Dimension Shellshock features a Survival Mode that adds a bit of challenge. Tasked with collecting Dimension Crystals, players will be tasked with taking down waves of enemies before grabbing a power-up and moving onto the next challenge. Don’t expect it to be a straightforward affair; enemies come out at all sides and it’s players against the world.
While we are well-versed in the beat-em-up genre, we do have to admit that this mode provided quite the challenge. The odds are most certainly stacked against the player; it is an absolute must that players bring a friend or five along for the ride. Collecting crystals can take a bit of time as well; one best be aware of their surroundings while they try to get the upper hand of each situation.
