Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim How To Get Married
A new feature was introduced to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the option of getting married. This Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim How To Get Married Guide will list all the available information on how to get married, what perks and bonuses you get as well as each NPC’s name and location that you can marry.

The first thing you need to do is get the Amulet of Mara, you can buy the amulet for a mere 200 gold coins. To buy the amulet you need to travel to Riften and find Maramal. He can be in a few places but is usually found inside the Bee and Barb, the Inn or inside the Temple of Mara itself. Once you have the amulet you’ll want to find the NPC you want to marry, below is a list of currently available NPC’s for marriage.

Once you’ve found the spouse of your dreams, you need to complete their affection quest. You can get this by talking to the NPC, however, sometimes you may have to do quests in the nearby town to get enough respect from the NPC to offer you the quest. Once you’ve earned enough interest with them you will get the choice to tell them you’re interested. This begins the process, you then have to go to the temple to get married. It has been reported NPC’s that you’ve completed quests for show up as guests and certain daedric entities may disrupt your event if you’ve worked for them recently.

Once you’re married you will need to make a decision on where to live, if you have a house, this is obviously the best place for your new family to start out. If your partner is from another city, they may ask if they can start their own shop up, you get 100 gold every 24 hours for this so it’s worth letting them do it. They also act as a regular shop so you can purchase/sell your goods there. You can also ask them to cook you a meal which increases all your regeneration rates and finally, sharing a bed with them gives you a %12 increase for all skill related experience. Combine this with the right stone and you’re looking at %27 increase to all skill related experience points. Check out our Stone Guide for more information

    1. LOL, know the feeling.. happend to me like 5 times.. the way I found to get around the bugs is to have your soon to be wife follow you .. after talking to marmal.. outside of the temple.. at 7 am go in

  1. i married Jenassa because I play Dark elf myself. Getting married was easy because I didnt need to do any quests beside getting the amulet and talking to Jenassa. But after the seremony she just walked out the door and now I can’t find her anywhere!

      1. Put on the amulet of Mara And also the ring you got from ceremony. If you havent decided where to live the spouce can be found in temple. Otherwise she/he can be found in house you decided. Go to that house WITH your ring and amulet on and you should find him/her

    1. Consider yourself lucky! I wasn’t paying attention and accidentally got engaged to a hobo…who I had just given 1 gold to. wtf? Now I have to marry this guy? Is there anyway of getting out of it?

      1. had a few laughs bout’ yer situation… if you haven’t pushed thru with the ceremonies, you can still pursue other NPCs… have three pending relationship with three NPCs meself, one accidental proposition ta an ape in Riften(blacksmith)gives me the creeps… the guy’s actually bigger, hairier & filthier than me.. LOL

    1. Yes. My character is female and I married the sister of the dude in the trading post in Riverwood. First try, actually… already did their quest in the very beginning of the game, clearing out Bleak Falls Barrow, and so as soon as she saw I was wearing the Amulet, I latched my sexy little claws into her. 😉

  2. I have the amulet of Mara equipped and a house in Whiterun, i wanted to marry Lydia my housecarl or whatever but idk what i’m supposed to do now. I talk to her and she just says the same stuff

    1. well first thing is get the amulet of mara best way to get it is get it for marmal or whatever his name is, from the bee and the barb in riften. make sure you dump any of the mara amulets you may found in quest because the way I understand it.. they dont have the nessesar code in it for the ai allowing you to marry.. Also make sure if you have any folloers to let them go.. beaues you are only allowed one follower. after choosing mate wear maulet and ask them. they ask you a question adn then give you a answer. after that go back to the bee and the barb and talk to marmal again and then make sure your in the temple.

  3. Hey i tried to marry Mjoll and i did everything then when i got to the wedding everyone was there but it never started they would keep saying this is a nice wedding and Ect.
The wedding wont start anybody can help plz

  4. I can’t get Sorex Vinius to offer his little delivery quest to me in order for the marriage option dialogue to pop up. I’m sad about this

  5. i married the imperial chick from riverwood early on and decided i wanted to re-marry a site said all u have too do is drop the the ring of matrimoney which ofc didn’t work so i murdered her and raised her corpse parading her round in front of the guars performing ritual executions but unfortunately i was still married a bit gay tbh lolz so i rerolled now i’m being more cautious xD not willing to give up lycanthropy for resting bonuses

  6. I took the cart ride to Riften, dragon was there, helped kill it, but the guards were all red and killed me. Tried to re-do several times but guards were always that way. Whats up? I have no bountys on me (level 10) and have not taken anything yet.

    1. I had a similar thing happen to me. Turns out, I was in the last stage of being a Vampire, which means they attack you on sight. If you kill anyone while in the last stage of a vampire, you won’t get a bounty–but it is a real pain in the butt to cure it. What I had to do was go to a friendly territory (in my case, the College of Winterhold), hire someone to work with me, command them to go to sleep, then bite them in the neck (it will give you stage 3 vampirism which makes it so people don’t attack you on sight)–then you have to go to an inn and ask the innkeeper about rumors–they will tell you about this dude who can cure you of vampirism–then you have to do this ritual. Or you can just keep biting your friend (Vampirism offers bonuses at night time–but it cripples you during the day)
