The first area isn’t the main part of the game; once you enter the main part, you get a new menu. When you get to the menu, go to the character tab, and you can see the skin button on the bottom left. For me, it is a triangle. If you hit triangle, you can see the skin and equip it there. This works for other skins you can find in the game as well.
As for the amulet, you need to make it to The Haven first, which is a mini hub with shops and NPCs. From there you can buy new amulets and equip them. Head to the tree that you heal at and you can equip new amulets there. The DLC one doesn’t take a slot, so you can have it on forever.
